What is going on at the carpark?

You may have noticed the construction activity up at the Carpark In The Sky over the past few months and wondered what is going on – many passers-by have asked us as we’ve been working on it. Well, one of our primary goals is to improve the land – litter-picking, path improvement, adding signage and information, building and siting amenities like the picnic tables, and so on. We’ve found it is very hard to do that kind of work when we have to transport all equipment and materials back and forward to the site. So, we realised we needed a works yard on-site to store materials and equipment. We’ve spent the last year or so gaining planning permission from East Dunbartonshire Council and sourcing funding to build a yard.

As you’ll know if you are a regular visitor, we started by creating a level patch of ground just over the wall at the north end of the car park, put in a gate – and got our first container on-site.

We nearly had trouble getting the second container in…!

We’ve since got to work putting cladding and fencing all around the site, as well as lining the insides of the containers:

We hope that regular users of the land are content with the outcome. It’s a necessary addition to enable us to improve the land. In line with our planning application we will be planting fast-growing willow and birch close to the yard in the next few weeks, as well as other, slower growing, native species in the area.

Tell us what you think of the yard.
